Students for Epilepsy Support and Education (SESE)

Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and connected on campus. With that belief at heart, I founded Students for Epilepsy Support & Education (SESE) at The University of Alabama to bring epilepsy education, advocacy, and community into the college experience.

Building on the mission of Charlie’s Chance, SESE creates opportunities for students to learn, serve, and connect while making our campus more informed and prepared. Our ongoing initiatives include:

  • Educating future nurses: Providing Seizure First Aid education to each incoming cohort at UA’s Capstone College of Nursing, helping future nurses recognize seizures and respond with confidence and care.

  • Preparing our campus: Partnering with UA Student Life to help prepare the on-campus housing division to recognize and respond to seizures, creating a safer living environment for students with epilepsy.

  • Building a community: Creating a welcoming space for students and community members living with epilepsy, caregivers, and students interested in advocacy, neuroscience, or nursing to find fellowship, share experiences, and serve together.

For me, this work is about more than preparing someone to respond to a seizure. It is also about making sure those living with epilepsy know they have a community beside them. Whether epilepsy is part of your own story or you simply want to learn and get involved, there is a place for you in SESE. Contact me directly to learn more about joining or partnering with us.
