Hi! My name is Elaina Burt! I am Miss Alabama's Teen and the proud founder of Charlie’s Chance, my 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. I’d like to introduce you to my little cousin, Charlie Mae. Charlie is the inspiration behind Charlie’s Chance and is one very special little girl! You see, Charlie was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy when she was only a few months old and proves every single day that she is an overcomer.
Did you know that over 50 million people worldwide suffer from epilepsy? Furthermore, 1 in 10 people will suffer from a seizure at some point during their lifetime and 1 in 26 will develop full epilepsy (1 or more seizures). Epilepsy is not rare! There are more than twice as many people with epilepsy in the US as the number of people with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis combined. What does 1 in 10 look like for you?
Charlie’s Chance was founded with three main goals…to EDUCATE the public on the facts of epilepsy, to ADVOCATE for patients suffering with epilepsy, and to channel FUNDRAISING to enrich the lives of epilepsy patients. Want to know what you can do? Get Seizure First Aid Certified; join me in getting legislation like the Seizure Safe School Act passed nationwide; and donate to my fundraising efforts for the epilepsy community. In the past 2 years, I've channeled over $65,000 back into the Epilepsy Foundation. Let's not stop there! Partner with me as we fight to Overcome Epilepsy Together!
